For those who have little time but anxiously wish to get a glimpse of the Sahara desert. It is a three-day journey across the Atlas Mountains and Draa valley to reach the big desert of Erg Chigaga.
Day 1 : Marrakech - Ait Benhaddou - Zagora - Draa Valley - M'hamid
We come to pick you up in 4x4 jeeps from Marrakech Hotel/airport. We cross the High Atlas Mountains - the Tizi-n-Tichka pass - with far-reaching views across the traditional Berber villages. We reach the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou Kasbah for a visit. Lunch will be in Ouarzazate. Then, the tour goes through the Draa Valley with millions of palm trees and old Kasbahs, partly off road. After Zagora you will have a stop at Tamgroute to visit the famous Koran library and an underground Kasbah. Arrival to M'hamid for the night with dinner in a hotel or a desert camp.
Day 2 : M'hamid - Sacred Oasis - Erg Chigaga Dunes
After breakfast at the camp/hotel, you will have 02 hours camel ride. Then, back to M'hamid village, once an important stop for the old caravan route to Timbuktu. After visiting the old Kasbah of Draa river and having lunch in M'hamid, you will join your 4×4 Jeep and drive through the spectacular desert landscape with a break at the sacred oasis consists of a small group of palm trees around a source in the midst of the desert. We reach the sand dune of Erg Chigaga – the largest group of dune in the region reaching a height of 300 m and a span of 40 km. Dinner with entertainment. Camp in nomad tents.
Day 3 : Erg Chigaga Dunes - Foum Zguid - Taznakht - Marrakech
After enjoying the sunrise up the sand dune, breakfast is served to you in the camp, then departure in 4×4 vehicles via the old Paris-Dakar road to Foum Zguid, crossing Iriqui lake and the fossils Mountain. Lunch in the Berber village Taznakht, very famous for the carpet manufactories. Return to Marrakech crossing the High Atlas Mountains.
